Bulgaria offers great value for money and is the ideal location for beginners.
Its ski areas are not as well known or extensive as other European destinations such as France and Switzerland however Bulgaria’s resorts have undergone redevelopment and expansion over the last couple of years. Bulgaria has a total of 13 ski resorts but its three main resorts are Bansko, Borovets and Pamporovo.
Bansko boasts the most modern ski centre and had two new lifts for the 2010/2011 season which reduced queues. It is the largest of all the Bulgarian ski resorts and is therefore the most diverse of all the resorts; offering something for all levels of skiers and boarders. Bansko has the best snow record in Bulgaria with the ski season lasting from December to May.
Borovets is the oldest ski resort in Bulgaria, and is located just 90 minutes away from the country’s capital city Sofia. Borovets have a total of 45km of pistes which are located in three different regions and are of varying difficulty.
Pamporovo is another modern resort set in the heart of the Rhodopi Mountain. Its friendly surroundings and gentle nursery slopes makes the resort very popular with families, whilst intermediates and advanced skiers will get the most out of the picturesque tree lined runs and great off-piste.
